An environmental site specific project with Kennoway Primary School with P4 (8-9yrs) and devised with artist Mike Inglis and OnFife Community Artist Rachel Jane Morrison.
We worked with twelve pupils to look at Kennoway Den, a deep wooded area with a stream or Burn running deep through the valley. We asked the children questions about the den to create a map, from what they knew or believed was there. Session two we visited the den to collect materials and leave kindness messages and biodegradable gifts for people visiting the area.
We then worked on costumes and masks made from recycled, bought and found materials, so the children could become the den, a tribe, and work together to increase understanding and co-working.
The children made a short film with RJ. Mike took photographs of each child in costume wearing their masks and created black and white cut out images so we could get them printed as posters and in grayscale for paste up artwork. We added them to building site hoardings in Leven, their local town. All totally famous now!

Messages of Kindness and Gifts to Kennoway Den

From costume design to cool paste up art

The Evaluation Owl
I created a large owl drawing so the children could add feather with their thoughts and could colour at the same time. A fun way to do an evaluation with children.
